Dark needs plague us all…The scent of blood hit his nostrils as soon as he entered Cordelia's apartment.
True, his Seer kept blood for his visits – but this wasn't pig's blood.
This wasn't the blood of an animal: it was Cordelia's; spicy, warm and always with him.
Panic ran through him like a knife in his gut, and Angel blindly followed the scent, pushing open the bathroom door without preamble – and froze.
Cordy stood in the shower facing him with her eyes closed against the spray of water, the opaque shower curtain partially open. Her arms were raised as she rinsed shampoo from her hair, completely oblivious to her unexpected visitor who stood like a marble statue, drinking in the vision of beauty bared before him.
So much better than his hottest dreams of her - so dangerous to his recently stolen heart that was in her unknowing grasp.
As his hot hungry eyes ran from her arched throat, following the graceful lines leading to her perfectly formed full, firm breasts; the tips flushed even more as the warm water ran in rivulets over and between, then down to a taut flat belly and onward to the soft dark tangle of curls at the apex of her long, luscious legs.
Then he saw it: a thin trail of fresh red liquid beading down her inner thigh. Angel swallowed hard as he realised exactly what he'd scented.
"Angel?"
His burning eyes shot upwards to lock with stunned hazel orbs - that also revealed something darkly unreadable. He instantly turned his back.
"Oh, God! I'm sorry – I…I'll just" Angel made for the door; halting abruptly as his name left her lips again; softly.
"Why did you come in here?" Her voice sounded surprisingly husky, making him glance over his shoulder – which was a bad idea as his eyes betrayed him as they again fell to her thighs.
"I –I thought you were hurt" he swallowed again as his mouth watered copiously, dragging his eyes away and turning his face to the wall in front of him.
Cordy glanced down, flushing slightly at the telltale trail of her monthly cycle, then lifted her eyes to look hard at the tense figure facing the wall near the door.
Angel was a vampire- she knew that…and she knew how her blood affected him. The time he'd stayed when his home had been destroyed had been tense through two cycles, causing her to dispose of her soiled products away from the apartment. At those times angel would either avoid her or hover like a bee around a highly perfumed flower.
But, strangely enough it hadn't grossed her out. Angel, her friend, was a vampire. Cordelia was used to him drinking blood in her presence; used to preparing it for him, and accepted his status. He was also the Manpire she loved with all her heart- and that meant she accepted every part of him.
He'd moved into the hotel several weeks before, but still popped by several times a week. It wasn't enough, but maybe it was for the best. Temptation is better kept away.
But she'd seen the heat in his eyes as they'd run along her skin, and that had been her undoing. When they had flared amber as they rested on her thighs again, Cordelia understood. A thought had crossed her mind right then: If ever there was a tiny chance of belonging to him, how far would she be willing to let that demonic side of his, run free? How much was she willing to give?
Angel was a vampire - and she loved him unconditionally. With that thought in mind, she stepped out of the shower and walked silently towards him, noting the instant ripple of muscles along his back, which gave away his awareness of her close proximity.
"What do you want from me, Angel?" she asked softly, reaching out a tentative hand to touch his shoulder in a light caress, her voice telling him she already knew.
"Please don't ask me that, Cordy," he begged, closing his eyes tightly as he reined in his demon with increasing difficulty, the scent of her blood stronger, teasing his taste buds, and making his nose twitch, the gentle pressure of her warm hand rubbing circles into the soft leather of his jacket.
"Okay… Then you ask me" she whispered and he turned around so fast, Cordelia jumped slightly.
Fully gold eyes bore into hers as a low growl left his slightly parted mouth.
Acceptance burned bright in those delicious hazel eyes.
He struggled against the urge to look down at her wet nude body and fall at her feet. The hot arousal in her eyes matched the scent mingling with her blood, and his civilised veneer slightly cracked. She licked her lips slowly, drawing his gaze helplessly, then leaned forward until their faces almost touched.
"Cos, you know; I'll say yes." She whispered huskily. A soft moan left his throat as his hands lifted to grip her upper arms and narrow the gap between them.
God, he loved this woman! But he was a vampire, and his needs were many; and not all that sweet. Could she truly accept that side of him?
"Think carefully about what you're saying 'yes' to." Angel warned her hoarsely, giving her a chance to take back her overwhelming offer. The crack was growing, and he needed to be sure before it was too late to walk away.
Cordelia nodded breathlessly; legs parting slightly, her eyes warm as honey - the crack became an abyss and the demon fell to his knees.
