It was something simple that did it.
So simple that it opened my eyes to all the other things that were so far from simple at the time....but now, with new eyes seem simple to me.
Go figure, huh?
"What's all this?"
"Lunch. I was hungry." Angel explained awkwardly, and then set all the wrapped sandwiches out in a row on the counter top.
Cordy rose from her seat and walked over to the other side of the counter. "You don't eat food." She replied softly after a pause.
"Oh, I can. It doesn't keep me alive, but, you know, sometimes I get a hankering."
"You had a hankering for turkey, ham and roast beef sandwiches?" she asked with a faint grin and an arched brow.
Angel grinned nervously and pointed to one: "You missed the vegetarian." He told her seriously.
"Soup and salad, too? What is going on here?"
Angel stared at her for a moment before replying quietly: "I forgot what you liked."...
And Oh, My God! I could feel the tears welling up way before they even moistened my eyes. And my heart, you know- it ached so much I thought it would bust right outta my chest.
"I love you." I replied, and Angel's worried expression melted into a big smile as I picked up two sandwiches...
Thing is, I know Angel just thought I was spouting an everyday expression when I said it.
And I must admit, I thought I had too at the time.
But hours later – and make note that half of it was spent pacing in the downstairs bathroom going over and over and... You get the picture. I now stood, elbows perched on the counter top, my chin resting on my forearms and although my arms and back ached from being in that position for so long, I didn't care.
As I watched him interact with the other guys and held tight to me every single smiling glance he threw my way, I knew it was that simple.
I knew, right at that moment that when I said it, I meant every word.
Now? Well, now I just have to figure out how to get him alone, [not as easy as you guys think, yano] and then brace myself and say it again.
I know!! Can I practice on you guys?
Okayyy, here goes… *deep breath*
"Hey, Angel...?"
"I love you."
Phew! I actually said it! It packs a helluva punch when you mean it, doesn’t it? Hooboy. Damnskippy, that felt….kinda good, actually!
So what do you think?
Will that be as simple to him? as much as it was for me?
Only one way to find out- oh, and wish me luck!
The Beginning.
